How Effective Is Chiropractic Treatment for Work Comp Injuries?

Work related injuries have always been known for costing fortunes as can be illustrated by loss of millions of dollars each year due to lost work days and heavy compensations to workers. Considering the lost productivity of business and heavy loss of revenue due to medical care, it has become a serious concern of the businesses and governments in various countries to identify the best and cheapest mode of treatment for injured workers. Therefore, a number of researches have been conducted in several countries to identify the least expensive and fastest methods of care for injured workers.

As a result, chiropractic has been identified as the more effective and less expensive method of care as compared to conventional medical care for workers' compensation injuries. For instance, in a study carried out at California, the patients who received chiropractic care by specialized doctors of chiropractic could return to work in an average of 15.6 days as compared to 32 days for those who got their standard medical treatment. Following the same pattern, the costs incurred in case of patients who received chiropractic care was significantly less than those who received medical care in form of traditional methods of medication.

The conclusions of various such researches held in various places, such as Florida, Utah, Oregon, and Carolina were supportive of the higher effectiveness of chiropractic care as compared to the conventional medication. The average cost of treatment, payment towards compensation, cost of hospitalization, and number of lost productive days were higher in case of the patients treated by medical doctors than those who received the chiropractic treatment.

Chiropractic, being a treatment methodology relying on the tendency of human body to heal itself naturally, is known to have clear and long-term effects. In addition to lower costs of chiropractic treatment and faster recovery from injuries, chiropractic treatment has gained its due popularity in last few decades due to its long-standing effects and significantly less numbers of negative side effects on the human body.

Chiropractic Treatment for Hand Pain - Things to Know

Millions of people around the world have benefitted from chiropractic care. Contrary to what most think, chiropractic treatment is not about just back pain. Chiropractors help patients with all kinds of pains, including hand pain. In this post, we will talk about visiting a chiropractor specifically for hand pain, along with tips and suggestions for finding the right clinic.

Do You Need Chiropractic Treatment for Hand Pain?

Chiropractors use a hands-on approach for treating pain, injuries and nerve issues. Their treatments can help in relieving pressure on the nerves, which can be caused by many different factors. There are many symptoms of chronic hand pain, including numbness, tingling, weakness, neck pain, shoulder stiffness and general dysfunction. You may also have decreased range of motion in the neck, shoulder, elbow, wrist and fingers. One may also have other kinds of issues, such as headaches, facial pain and other painful areas, depending on the cause of the actual pain. Patients dealing with chronic hand pain may have sleepless nights, as the pain might increase at night. In most cases, people believe that relying on painkillers is enough, which isn't recommended over a long period of time and that strategy is only masking the problem.

Chiropractic care can help in reducing the symptoms and may offer instant relief. Chiropractors may use other alternative forms of treatment, such as soft tissue techniques to reduce the pain, in addition to using manual adjustments to make sure the joints are moving and functioning properly. Additionally, after the chiropractor has performed an orthopedic and neurological evaluation, might determine there are pinched nerves in your neck causing this issue, spinal decompression might be recommended. In many cases, these collective treatments can be adequate in reducing your dependency on drugs, medicines, and surgery. However, if the chiropractor finds that the pain is related to other things, they might suggest you to see a hand surgeon.

Finding a Clinic

If you are looking for a hand pain chiropractor, be sure to ask questions specific to your hand complaints and find out what approach they plan to take. It's important that you select one of the known and experienced wellness chiropractic clinics for your condition. Check online to know what other patients have to say about their services, and most clinics have their own website, where you can find a lot of other details.

On your first visit, your chiropractor will perform a thorough orthopedic and neurological evaluation. They might perform or refer you for certain diagnostics, such as x-ray, MRI, CT, ultrasound or electrodiagnostics. All of this is done to better understand the underlying causes of hand pain and how to best treat your condition. If the condition can be treated with chiropractic and alternative therapies, this will be discussed with you so that treatment expectations can be set. Also, they might suggest exercises or restrict certain activities, until your hand is more functional. Have a question? As a patient, you have the right to know the pros and cons of receiving chiropractic care, so that you can make an informed decision.

Why More People Are Choosing Chiropractic Over Drugs and Surgery for Back Pain?

Conventional medicine is built on treating illnesses with two tools and only two tools: drugs and surgery. You can visualize a conventional doctor as a workman who carries only a hammer and a screw driver. To be fair, they're the absolute best hammer and screw driver that science can build, and the workman is very, very good with those particular tools; if you need a nail or screw driven, this is the guy you want to hire.

But back pain isn't all just nails to be hammered and screws to be driven. Back pain can be caused by multiple factors, and each cause can require a different kind of treatment.Would it make sense to fix everything with only two tools even though that the problem may require other tools? Would it be better to patch the road or fix it at its root?

For example, if drugs are used to treat a spinal misalignment, will that correct that misalignment that is causing the pain? Or will that just temporary inhibit the pain without treating the cause? Ultimately, medications are there to just block the pain, and although this eases the anguish associated with back pain, it does not restore the functional biomechanics. Even worse, while prescription drugs can be effective at treating pain, in most cases they can't do anything to fix the underlying problem causing that pain. This means that if you want that pain to stay away, you have to keep taking those drugs until the cause of the pain somehow fixes itself. That's a life sentence of sky-high medical bills and side effects!

Pain is a sign that something is seriously wrong with the body, and blocking that mechanism will only cause more damage in the long run. Wouldn't it be better to treat the underlying problem and restore its proper function?

And surgery, while generally more effective at treating the root cause of a problem, can be even more dangerous. Iatrogenic disease-that is, illnesses caused by doctors-is currently the number three cause of death for Americans, behind only cancer and heart disease. Every time a patient goes under the knife, no matter how necessary, they are taking their life in their hands. Again, there are certainly conditions where surgery is the best option, but why put up with the risks of surgery when there are alternative treatments that can deal with a problem before it gets bad enough for surgery to be the only option?

In short, when it comes to back pain, conventional medicine comes at the problem with nothing but that hammer and screw driver, and whatever the cause of the pain may be, those are the tools you get. Given the alternative, wouldn't you rather be treated by someone with a complete toolbox, a medical practitioner who approaches each problem by its own standards instead of using the same approach to every malady?

Considering how inadequate the drugs-and-surgery method is at effectively treating back pain, is it any surprise that millions of Americans are seeing Doctors of Chiropractic? Chiropractic medicine, unlike conventional medicine, isn't about treating symptoms, but about treating people. Doctors of Chiropractic make use of a wide range of methods and equipment to treat a variety of problems. After all, chronic disorders such as back pain result in almost 80% of health care expenditures in the United States, and chronic disease can't generally be fixed with drugs or surgery. Chiropractor helps patients look at their lifestyle and medical history as a whole so they can treat the root cause of chronic pain-and "treat" doesn't mean "make it go away by taking a pill."

Let's examine why more and more people are looking to chiropractor to treat their back pain:

Chiropractic is Safe and All Natural

Compared to the dangers of surgery as described above, chiropractic is incredibly safe, with injury to patients during spinal manipulation reported in fewer than one in three million adjustments. Doctors of chiropractic make use of all natural remedies instead of relying on prescription drugs, which lead to millions of hospitalizations annually. The safety of chiropractic explains why malpractice insurance is one of the lowest of any medical practitioner.

Chiropractic is Effective for Back Pain

The effectiveness of chiropractic in treating back pain has been proven countless times. In fact, chiropractic is so effective that the Ontario Ministry of Health recommended that chiropractic should be the preferred treatment for lower back pain, with traditional medicine not even in the running. Chiropractic patients have reported being happier with chiropractic treatment than traditional medicine in startling numbers, citing the communicativeness of chiropractor, the low cost of treatment compared to traditional medicine, and most importantly, the effectiveness at reducing pain compared to drugs and surgery.

Chiropractic Has Shown to Reduce Hospital Admissions and Healthcare Costs

Doctors of Chiropractic don't just keep their patients safe when treating back pain; they actually reduce hospital admissions as a result of their treatment. According to the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics, patients who saw chiropractor as their primary care physician experienced 43% fewer hospitalizations and had more than 50% reduction of their pharmaceutical costs. Considering how many hospital visits result in iatrogenic disease, it's not only better financially to avoid hospitalization, it's a lot safer, too!

Chiropractic is the not answer to every health ailment. However, for musculoskeletal issues such as back and neck pain, headaches, and other related disorders, it is a safer and more effective treatment than drugs and surgery.

Can Chiropractic Help Headaches?

There are few things that can be more debilitating than a severe headache. Researchers estimate that nine out of ten people have headaches at some point, and many of them are chronic. Headaches sufferers often present to their medical doctor, chiropractor or other provider describing their pain as anything from dull and throbbing to stabbing and shooting.

The various classifications of headaches generally include migraines, tension, sinus and cluster headaches.

The question then becomes for headache sufferers... 'Is chiropractic a good option for relieving my headache pain?' The answer is it depends on what is causing your headache in the first place.

Some headaches may be caused by an underlying medical condition, but researchers have found that most headaches can be traced to other causes. A significant number have been found to be related to irritation or inflammation of the nerves in the upper part of the spine. If this nerve inflammation is coming from an underlying condition such as misalignment of spinal bones in the neck or overly tight muscles then chiropractic may be just the answer you are searching for.

The most common question I get is 'what caused the tight muscles or spinal bones to get out of proper alignment in the first place?' Often time these issues can be linked to sports or automobile injuries, falls, poor posture, or from something as simple as sleeping in an awkward position or staying in a fixed position (such as using a computer or driving) for a long period of time.

Over time, if left untreated, even a slight injury or impairment in the neck area can actually become worse just through the process of normal daily activities and result in inflammation of the nerves in the upper neck which may lead to not only neck pain but also chronic headaches.

Since headaches affect hundreds of millions of people, a great number of medications have been developed over the years to try to alleviate the pain and suffering they cause, but medications only offer a limited and temporary relief since they most often do not address the root cause of the problem. It's for this reason that a number of people are turning to chiropractors as a possible solution for headache pain relief.

A chiropractor has extensive knowledge of the spinal column, including the cervical (neck) vertebrae, and has a very specific skill that includes detecting spinal bones that are out of alignment. If a problem exists the chiropractor can perform adjustments to the area to restore proper alignment, mobility and functionality. By restoring proper alignment it relieves pressure on the nerves and reduces muscle tension which can be a contributing factor.

Chiropractic care may not be the solution for all headaches, but in many cases, depending on the cause of the headaches, it may be the best headache remedy.

Chiropractic Care And Nutrition - A Healthy You!

Why Nutritional Counseling Is Important With Chiropractic Care

Have you ever wondered how nutrition is linked with chiropractic care? Well, the answer is simple- the goal of chiropractic therapies is to help patients achieve total health and this is definitely not possible without providing the body proper nutrition.

This is the reason that chiropractors also help patients with nutritional counseling. We do this to guide you on what nutritional supplements and diet patterns you should follow to make the most of chiropractic care. Do you want to achieve optimal health? Then you should know the food choices that can help you achieve your goal, and chiropractors have the right knowledge to guide you on this subject. They can suggest to you the right combination of diet and supplements according to your health and body requirements.

Why Is It Important?

Unlike another therapy, chiropractic is related with spinal manipulation for relieving stress and other pains originated due to a stressed spine. All our vital functions are controlled by our brain, and stress on our vertebral column can lead to severe health issues. To recover from spinal issues, we need proper and balanced nutrition, along with chiropractic care. As experts in the field, chiropractors can tell the patient the food supplements and nutrients that will boost the process of rehabilitation.

Another reason why nutritional counseling is important is that our lifestyle and the food we eat today are not healthy. A general nutritionist can give us a diet plan, but it is not balanced because the nutritional value of the food is surprisingly low. We need additional supplements to overcome these deficiencies and to help patients recover from their health issues.

Usually, doctors don't recommend health supplements to patients - but providing the body with the right dosage of nutrients is the key to quick and complete recovery. Chiropractic treatments, does not give our immune system any external aid to heal from the damage. This is the reason why chiropractors consider a balanced nutritional diet vital for healing.

Chiropractors Understand You

A service provider, who does not understand you, can never understand your health requirements. What distinguishes a chiropractor from other service providers is that they value their patients. Every patient is given special attention and care. The nutritional counseling services usually offered include:

• Complete physical assessment of the patient

• Informative counseling on why nutrition important with chiropractic care

• Identification of individual needs of patients

• Providing a nutritional program to every patient

We are what we eat- it reflects in our health. If you want to live healthy, you will have to eat healthy and to acquire optimal health benefits from our diet- we need supplements.

A definite and well-structured nutrition plan and chiropractic care is just the right combination to bring out the best in you. So don't wait anymore- visit the best chiropractor in your town now that provides nutritional counseling.

What You Need to Know about Handbags | Chiropractic Care

As a spokesperson for the American Chiropractic Association, I have done so many interviews. Wall Street Journal, New York Times, O Magazine, on heavy handbags. Why? It's a really big issue particularly for women, and kids too.

Why are people using these giant heavy handbags? Most of us leave our house at the crack of dawn, and we carry our entire life in these handbags. Gym shoes, gym clothes, water, books, that accumulate a little bit more each day as the week goes on, so before we know it we're carrying this really heavy bag.

The American Chiropractic Association recommends that even in a backpack, which is carried on both sides, you should never carry more than 10 percent of your body weight. But I bet that if most of you weighed your handbags they weigh much more than you think they do.

There are some really some specific recommendations that I can make to help people trim down their bags and also carry them in a way that's not going to be such a burden to their body.

The first thing I recommend people do is, everyday on a regular basis, empty out your bag. Almost dump it completely out and then put stuff back in that you really need. Particularly things like water and coins shouldn't be carried in handbags. They're just too heavy and they add a lot of weight. It creeps up on you.

The other thing I recommend is that people keep additional sets of commonly used items either in their car or at their office so they don't have to carry heavy things in their handbags. This would include things like make-up kits, shoes, water, hair brushes, and make-up kits.

So now let's talk about how to carry your heavy handbag. The first thing I recommend is that you purchase a handbag that's not so heavy by itself. A lot of the handbags that are out there are made with leather. Some of them have metal chains and they're heavy even with nothing in them. So pick a bag that's lightweight to begin with.

The other thing is to pick a bag that has a strap that's not too long or not too short. We really want the handbag to snuggle in your side, above your hip, and under your armpit. If it's too high on your armpit, you can't swing your arms, and if the bag is too low it will interfere with how your leg swings when you walk. You really want to maintain a very balanced perfect gait when you walk, and getting the handbag to fit your body and hit the sweet spot really makes a big difference.

The other thing I'd recommend is that you change the handbag from one side to the other every few blocks. It makes a really big difference. Most of us get into the habit of carrying a shoulder bag on one shoulder for years and years and we never switch, and that makes the muscles on that side overdevelop. So it's really important to switch the side of the handbag.

Finally, if you have the option of using a roller bag or a backpack, it's a really good idea, especially if you have to carry something very heavy. If you do decide to go the backpack route, and I recommend backpacks a lot, make sure you get a backpack that has well padded shoulder straps and adjust those straps so that it really fits your body. The backpacks should not sit on your low back or your sacrum. It should be up higher so the weight is properly distributed.

The other thing is to make sure that you actually wear the backpack the way it's meant to be worn with two straps on your shoulders. So many people just take the backpack and put it on one shoulder and that puts a lot of stress on your neck and shoulders.

It's important if you can everyday, to put your heavy handbag or backpack down and just go take a walk with nothing on your shoulders at all. It really helps balance your body, having a normal gait where your shoulders and your hips get to swing in the opposite motion with your hands just gently swinging at your side.

What Exactly Is Chiropractic Care?

Chiropractic care centers on disorders of the musculoskeletal and nervous systems, and the effects of these conditions on the overall health of the individual involved. Chiropractic care focuses on the diagnosis, intervention, and prevention of mechanical ailments of the musculoskeletal system, and in particular the spinal column, pursuant to the speculation that these disorders influence normal health through the neurological system. Chiropractic relies on a process of diagnosis and care using the approach where the nervous system coordinates all of the operations of the body, and also that malady results from a lack of optimal neurological operation. Chiropractic care aims to restore the body's natural neurological function and therefore allow the body to correct these ailments through it's innate ability to heal itself.

Chiropractic is generally used to take care of back and neck discomfort, and yet chiropractic care may also be used for treatment of other neuromusculoskeletal problems, for example painfulness of the joints within the arms or legs, and even headaches. The main chiropractic treatment method involves manual therapy, consisting of an adjustment of the spine, other joints of the body, and soft tissues. The treatment plan can also include exercises as well as health and lifestyle guidance. Doctors of chiropractic do not recommend prescription drugs or perform surgeries, although they do refer individuals for such treatments if they are clinically indicated.

One of the founding concepts of chiropractic is that true health originates from within. In other words, we are generally born with everything that we need to live full, healthy lives. The word "chiropractic" blends the Greek words cheir, indicating hand, and praxis, indicating practice, to explain a treatment done by hand. Chiropractic health care professionals usually employ hands-on treatments, including a spinal or extremity adjustment, however, they might also make use of different treatment procedures as needed. Chiropractic care is based upon the idea that the connection between the body's structure, principally that of the spinal column, and its performance, as synchronised by means of the nervous system, affects health.

The spinal manipulation, also known as the chiropractic adjustment, is the most typical treatment procedure executed by chiropractors. The purpose of adjusting should be to re-establish joint mobility by means of manually implementing a controlled force into articulations that have become hypomobile, or restricted in their movement, resulting from a tissue injury. Muscular injury may be triggered through an individual traumatic event, along the lines of incorrect lifting of a large item, or perhaps by means of recurring stresses, such as sitting in an awkward position with bad spinal posture for an extended period of time. In any case, injured tissues experience physical and chemical modifications that can cause swelling, discomfort, and decreased performance for the patient. Manipulation of the impacted joint and tissues, restores movement, thereby alleviating pain and muscle tightness, in addition to enabling tissues to recover.

Chiropractors may assess patients by way of clinical examination, laboratory testing, diagnostic imaging and additional diagnostic interventions to ascertain if chiropractic treatment is suitable or if it is not applicable. In some instances, chiropractic might be the predominant and most effective method of treatment. With conditions such as chronic neck or lumbar discomfort, this is frequently the case. If additional health concerns exist, chiropractic care can complement or support medical treatment by relieving the musculoskeletal symptoms linked to the ailment. Chiropractors will commonly refer patients to the appropriate health care specialist when chiropractic care is not suitable for the patient's ailment, or the condition merits co-management in combination with other members of the medical team.

Chiropractic Care for Runners: Things Worth Knowing

No matter whether you want to lose weight or just want to stay fit, running is a great form of exercise. Just an hour of rigorous running is more than enough to stay in shape. Of course, you need to build your stamina over a period of time, so you can do more on the track. Runners often make mistakes with regards to their form, and injuries are not uncommon either. If you are a runner, you should consider seeing a chiropractor. In this post, we will talk about a few aspects that are worth paying attention to.

Types of Injuries

As a runner, you may face two kinds of injuries - overtraining injuries and traumatic injuries. The latter is related to an accident or an unexpected trauma. For example, if you fell on the track while running, you may end up with a sprained knee or a broken bone. On the contrary, injuries that are related to overtraining are more common. In this case, you may have pain in your knee, ankles, feet and other parts of the body, just because you ran more than your body could take. Most serious runners have a tendency to push themselves, and therefore, injuries related to overtraining is more common.

Do I need a Chiropractor?

A running chiropractor specializes in treating injuries that are common to runners. Many sports chiropractors may also offer treatment and help for runners. They know the mistakes that you might be making on the track, especially if you have frequent injuries. Also, they can help in treating injuries that are related to unexpected trauma or accidents. Chiropractors use a number of different techniques and varied types of manual adjustments, which are extremely useful in reducing pain and overall body stress. You will see a vast difference in your form and fitness with regular sessions, especially if you choose to visit a clinic every couple of weeks.

Knowing The Benefits

As a runner, you may get a number of benefits by visiting a chiropractor. They help in reducing the stress and physical strain that the body undergoes during runner. They also guide runners on avoiding the mistakes related to the form, so that they don't get injured on the go. Also, running chiropractors are great at reducing the recovery time after a traumatic injury. As required, they may use a number of alternative therapies, so that the body starts healing on its own, but without being heavily dependent on medicines and drugs. Chiropractors help runners in doing better, even when they are not in the best of their form.

If you want to know more about chiropractic care for runners, you should make an appointment with a leading clinic in your area to know more. Don't shy away from asking questions when you meet your chiropractor for the first time.

What Do Spinal Adjustments Feel Like? | Chiropractic Care

Adjustments can feel different, depending on the particular technique. Traditional chiropractic adjustments involve a very precise controlled impulse into the spine to restore range of motion. It will also decrease inflammation, relax muscles, and restore normal nerve function.

Most adjustments are not painful at all. And this is quite remarkable, considering the fact that we're adjusting areas that might be tender to begin with. The adjustments are very, very specific, and there's a very small movement that's done. And patients report almost an immediate sense of relief after the adjustment. They usually report a profound sense of well being, they have increased range of motion, decreased tenderness, relaxation of the muscles, and decreased inflammation.

Each time we adjust, we restore slightly more range of motion to that vertebral segment. So that the sessions actually can improve your range of motion, and your spinal function over time.

The adjustments themselves are usually performed on a chiropractic table. And you'll be comfortably lying either face down on the table, or lying on your back face up. Occasionally adjustments are done in a sitting position.

I want to add that there are many different chiropractic techniques, and your chiropractor will choose the techniques that are right for your condition and your body type. Some of the techniques chiropractors may choose are low force, or non forced techniques. In these cases you may feel a gentle pressure, a stretching sensation, or a rocking sensation. These techniques are also very effective at reducing subluxation, restoring range of motion, and reducing pain and inflammation.

The Basics on Chiropractic and the Benefits From What a Chiropractor Does

The Basics on Chiropractic and the Benefits:

Chiropractic, a physical form of medicine is based on the principles of alignment and mechanics. Therefore, anyone who suffers from a structurally based problem or injury to their joints, muscles, ligaments, or nerves can benefit from receiving chiropractic care. The primary method of the treatment with chiropractors is the chiropractic adjustment. A chiropractic adjustment is performed by placing a short rapid thrust into a dysfunction joint usually found in the spine. This mechanism of treatment results in restoring the proper joint function. This procedure is usually performed by hand or by an instrument like an activator.

Some of the Conditions that Benefit from what a chiropractor does:

  • Relieves back pain and stiffness
  • Reduces general back tension or tightness
  • Relieves neck pain and stiffness
  • Reverses the effect of arthritis
  • Rids headaches
  • Improves posture
  • Relieves nerve pain like sciatica
  • Effective Treatment for Whiplash
  • Effective Treatment for sports injuries
  • Reduce bulging discs
The healing properties associated with the chiropractic adjustment:
  • Improved circulation
  • Reduction or elimination of muscle toxins that cause pain
  • Increase oxygen and nutrients to the tissues of the body
  • More flexibility
  • Elimination of any pain or soreness
  • increase the time it takes to heal
  • Reduced muscle spasm and body tension
  • Prevention of future injury
In conclusion chiropractic care is an effective form of treatment for many health conditions, especially ones relating to structural dysfunction of the spine. The most common structural related condition that the vast majority of the population has at one time or another experienced is back pain. It is unfortunate that only 1% of the population has tried chiropractic especially when the consumers report guide ranked chiropractic number one over medical and physical therapy for being most effective for the treatment of back pain.

Chiropractics is a medical system based on the theory that disease and disorders are caused by misaligned bones, especially in the spine, that obstructs proper nerve functions. Chiropractors manually manipulate the joints of the body and realign the spinal column.

Chiropractors are people who diagnose and treat disorders of the musculoskeletal and nervous systems. The philosophy of chiropractic medicine believes that skeletal imbalance and joint malfunction, particularly in the area of the spine, can cause pain and other problems. Chiropractors rely on palpitation, pressure, and manual manipulation of the joints and muscles to cure these problems.

Subluxation and chiropractic manipulation

Chiropractors use the term subluxation to depict the altered position of the vertebra and subsequent functional loss, thus determines the location for the manipulative treatment.

Chiropractic kinesiology

Chiropractors often use chiropractic kinesiology to treat structural imbalances and muscle and joint problems. Chiropractic kinesiology is a specific form of diagnosis using functional neurological muscle testing (FNMT) as a primary feedback mechanism to help determine the cause of an individual's chief complaint and to help evaluate our structural, nutritional and mental aspects of health.

Chiropractic treatment is suitable for everyone, including newborn babies, the elderly, pregnant women, and sports enthusiasts. Your chiropractor will help you to maintain your health, and keep your body aligned as it should, and by offering exercise and lifestyle advice for you to follow in the future.

Not all insurance covers chiropractic care. You will need to check with your health care provider. Most chiropractic offices will call and check on your coverage, but it is best to call your health provider prior to your visit.

Chiropractic treatment can be ongoing. You may achieve a degree of comfort after your treatments, but misalignment of joints can sometimes be reoccurring.

Here's How You Can Choose a Chiropractic Wellness Center

Unlike medications, chiropractic finds the source of the problem instead of masking it. Given that expertise and experience are critical for best care, it is often hard to pick a chiropractic clinic. In this post, we will guide you through a few aspects that you should take note of, especially if you are considering becoming a first time chiropractic patient.

Start with background and recommendations

If you want to find a clinic that offers first-class customer services and goodwill, you should start with recommendations. Asking family, friends and co-workers about the best clinics in your area, is usually best. This will just give you a decent start with the names, and you can compare clinics online. Chiropractic clinics don't just deal with only one form of therapy. Other therapies, such as cold laser therapy, spinal decompression and sports nutrition, are also offered for pain and discomfort. Sometimes, chiropractors may use more than one treatment at a time to the patient, especially if there's a time crunch (ie. going on a long trip in a few days)

Talking to a chiropractor

When you look at a chiropractic wellness center, your primary concern should be expertise. Usually, you can go ahead and make an appointment for a consult, only, to better understand the approach of the chiropractor. This is important to make sure you are comfortable with the chiropractor, they share your philosophy and to ensure a positive experience. You don't want to wait for hours for a session, and the chiropractor should ensure effective communication both before and after the treatment. There are a few questions that you may ask, such as -

1. What kind of chiropractic techniques and therapies do you and your therapists use? Do they know a range of different techniques, and if yes, how do they decide which to use?

2. Does the chiropractor perform manual or instrument adjusting? In most cases, it could be both, depending on the patient (ie. severe osteoporotic patients may only receive instrument adjusting). Depending on your condition and health, it is best to know the treatment approach.

3. Has the chiropractor handled similar patients in the past? What is the extent of his experience? If you are going to a clinic with several chiropractors that might be treating you, ask them about their individual professional experience.

4. Optimal chiropractic care usually requires experience and extensive training, so does the chiropractor in question have those qualifications? If yes, where did he/she get trained?

5. Regarding your condition, after looking at all the diagnostics (which could include: x-rays, MRI, CT, and bloodwork), will the chiropractor consider and/or suggest co-managing with another specialist?

If you can inquire and check for these few things, choosing a chiropractor should be easier. If you still have any doubts, you can even ask for a few references. Most clinics have websites, so finding details should be easy, and one can also choose to make an appointment online.

Sciatica And Lower Back Disc Problems Can Be Helped With Chiropractic Care

Sciatica is an abnormal health condition which causes people to have problems with pain in their leg. Sometimes it is called sciatic nerve pain. It is associated with pain in the lower back, buttock and leg or foot. Sometimes the pain in the leg is described as a numbness, tingling, burning or an ache. For some people it is a mild annoyance but for others it may be excruciating.

Sciatic nerve problems will occur in 10% of people, most commonly affecting those aged 25 to 45 years old. The nerves originate in the lower back and travel all the way down to both feet. In the buttock area the sciatic nerve is the largest nerve in the human body and is about the thickness of our thumb. As it travels down the leg the nerve decreases in size and gives branches off to various aspects of our legs and feet.

Normally there should be no problems with the sciatic nerve. However the most common problem affecting it tends to come from a problem from a disc in the lower back. The discs of the lowest part of our spine are called the lumbar discs. They are small pads or cushions between the bones of the lower spine which are called the lumbar vertebrae.

Generally what happens to the lumbar discs is that a portion of it bulges, protrudes or herniates backward putting pressure or impinging upon the sciatic nerve. Sometimes the term "slipped disc" is used but this is really not a true descriptive medical term. There can be various reasons for problems with the disc such as a sudden trauma or prolonged wear and tear occurring over time.

Most people with a lumbar disc and sciatic nerve problem experience the worst of their pain early in the morning towards the end of their normal sleep time and the first hour or two after arising from bed. People who have occupations requiring them to sit in an office or drive a vehicle tend to be particularly uncomfortable with this condition.

The typical medical treatment for sciatica tends to include medications aimed at reducing inflammation. At times surgery is undertaken. Most studies show that taking medication provides only temporary relief. Some experts feel that only 1% of disc and sciatic nerve problems actually need surgery.

Chiropractic care is a natural healthcare alternative to conventional treatment of sciatica and lumbar disc problems. Chiropractors will initially see a patient and discuss the problem with them, perform a physical examination, and evaluate x-rays and other imaging such as MRIs. Chiropractic treatment is aimed at gently tractioning and repositioning the lumbar bones so as to take pressure off the disc. By doing this the bulging or protruding area of the disc is reduced resulting in less irritation of the sciatic nerve. Chiropractors may also use electrical stimulation to relax muscles and recommend the patient use cold packs over the area to reduce inflammation. Chiropractors will also discuss utilizing rehabilitative exercises and lifestyle recommendations that patients will need to follow through on at home and work.

Some studies have shown that 90% of lumbar disc problems causing sciatica are helped with chiropractic care. The sooner the patient visits a doctor of chiropractic the sooner they are likely to experience relief, be able to sleep, work and enjoy life the way it is meant to be.

Herniated Lower Back Discs: What You Should Know

Many people suffer from disc problems of the lower back and sciatic nerve leg pain. Discomfort may appear rather suddenly from an accident, injury or just overdoing it at home. Others may experience ongoing pain from a chronic problem. Regardless of the source of onset pain from a herniated disc low back can be one of the most excruciating conditions we can experience.

The discs in our backs are specialized pads located between the individual bones of our spine. Their main function is to work as shock absorbers in the back. But like any part of our body we must give our discs attention and care.

Discs of the low back can show signs of wear and tear if they are not properly maintained. A "degenerative disc" is a term we commonly hear. This simply means that the disc is being worn down. If we were to look at an x-ray of a person with a degenerative disc we would see that the disc height is smaller than normal. The spinal bones above and below the vertebrae would appear closer together. Many would refer to this condition as "bone on bone."

To maintain our discs and keep them healthy a very important thing to do is to have plenty of movement and activity. Our discs contain a large amount of water. This water carries nutrients into the disc and washes waste products out. With movement we "pump" the discs and flush them with fresh healthy water. One of the best activities for our lower back discs is walking.

In our every day culture we do very little walking because of all the sitting we do. We sit at school, work and in our automobiles. However if we were to take time every day to take even a short walk it would go a long way and healthy lower back discs.

Another way to keep the discs healthy is to keep the spinal bones and good alignment. When these bones are misaligned abnormal stresses on the discs which causes them to degenerate more quickly. Chiropractic care for the spine is essential to maintain proper position of the spinal bones which in turn keeps the discs from wearing out.

If a person develops a disc problem from degeneration, herniation or bulging very few will require surgery. Most are able to be treated and helped with conservative treatment, like chiropractic care. Recently a large HMO insurance company did a study that showed that only five percent of disc problems will need surgery. The other 95 percent respond well to conservative treatment, like chiropractic care.

Take care of your discs by walking and maintaining proper alignment of the spine through chiropractic care to prevent having lower back problems.

The Chiropractic Approach to Health and Wellness

Chiropractic is a natural science devoted to overall health and wellness through a holistic and integrated approach. Its focus is on the function and biomechanics of the body, particularly the neuromusculoskeletal system which includes nerves, muscles, bones, and joints.

Spinal health and well-being play a major role in the overall health of the body. The body's systems are all interconnected, thus proper spinal mechanics including alignment of vertebrae and the health of corresponding nerves and soft tissue provide a foundation for health and wellness.

Doctors of Chiropractic (DC) are trained to diagnose and treat disorders of the body as well as provide proactive care to help prevent injuries and ailments. Chiropractic is an all natural healthcare practice that integrates many approaches to help rehabilitate patients and provide a path for optimum wellness. Chiropractors are most commonly known for the chiropractic adjustment, a specific hands-on technique to correct joint dysfunction. An adjustment realigns the misaligned joint and causes a neurological response, resolving pain and inflammation and restoring function and mobility. Misalignments do not have to occur from a sudden injury or accident; they can appear over time due to repetitive stresses, postural habits, or work factors. When misalignments do occur, they can begin to cause a myriad of pain and dysfunction throughout the body. Chiropractic, though manual adjustments and other modalities including but not limited to therapeutic exercises, heat and ice therapy, ultrasound, electrical muscle stimulation, disc decompression therapy, acupuncture, and more, help restore health and bring the body back into a state of well-being.

The benefits of chiropractic treatment are invaluable and the conditions chiropractic can help are numerous. Some of the most popular conditions treated by chiropractic are sports related injuries, work injuries, injuries from auto accidents, back pain, neck pain, shoulder pain, joint pain, headaches, migraines, allergies, asthma, arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome, fibromyalgia disorder, pregnancy related care, and more. Approximately 21 million Americans regularly benefit from chiropractic care.

Chiropractic puts the body on a healthy track. When everything is in alignment, the body's systems can function freely and effectively. People who use chiropractic often find they have more energy, less tension, sleep better, and feel more focused. The chiropractic approach to health and wellness greatly improves the quality of their lives and allows them to focus on a positive lifestyle.

A consultation with a chiropractor can help you join the millions of Americans who are already reaping the health benefits of chiropractic care.

Neck Pain and How Chiropractic Care May Help You

People experiencing neck pain often turn to chiropractic care for help. Some swear by chiropractic physicians, saying the work they perform not only relieves pain, but also addresses the source of their pain rather than covering it up with drugs. There are more than 60,000 licensed chiropractic physicians in the United States today, and about 8 percent of American adults and 3 percent of children have had chiropractic care to treat their pain, according to a recent survey. That's a higher percentage than those who use other alternative therapies like yoga, massage, and acupuncture.

Chiropractic: How Neck Pain Is Treated

The word chiropractic is from the Greek words for hand (cheir) and action (praxis) - practitioners primarily use their hands to treat muscle, joint, and nerve pain by adjusting the spine and any joints in the body that need it. Adjustments involve the chiropractic physician applying controlled gentle, relaxing force to a joint, pushing the joint into a more correct place. This is intended to loosen up joints that are restricted or painfully due to tissue damage or scarring caused by either trauma or repetitive stress. An example of trauma causing neck pain is whiplash, while a repetitive stress injury could be from consistently poor posture.

For neck pain in particular, chiropractic neck adjustments, called cervical manipulation, loosen up the joints of the cervical vertebrae in the neck, and this can reduce pain caused by pinched nerves and muscle spasms. Chiropractic physicians use their hands to twist the neck sharply and snap the vertebrae back into alignment.

Chiropractic: Finding a Practitioner

Chiropractic physicians are trained to diagnose patients through physical exams, x-rays if needed as well diagnostic tests. Treatment plans may include neck exercises to do on your own and suggestions for a healthier lifestyle; chiropractic physicians do not prescribe medication as part of their treatment. Practicing chiropractic physicians in the United States are required to receive a Doctor of Chiropractic degree from a properly accredited college. Admission to a chiropractic college requires three years of undergraduate work. Chiropractic College is a four-year, year round program, during which the chiropractic physicians-in-training will learn in the classroom and provide hands-on care to patients. For specialized training, chiropractic physicians undertake an additional two- or three-year residency.

When evaluating a chiropractic physician, the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine suggests asking about the professional's licensing and training, and whether that training included the specific problem you're experiencing.

By restoring mobility in your joints, chiropractic offers neck pain treatment that aims to fix the source of the pain rather than just treat its symptoms. This no-drug, no-surgery approach may be the answer you've been looking for.

Because each individual case is different, the appropriate chiropractic treatment is unique to each patient and is directed at the primary dysfunctions detected during the chiropractic exam. However, chiropractors commonly employ different treatments often including: gentle relaxing manipulation often followed by muscle relaxation and/or gentle stimulation and various exercises

The primary treatment for joint dysfunction, relaxing spinal manipulation involves the chiropractor gently moving the involved joint into the direction in which it is restricted. Also known as a chiropractic adjustment, spinal manipulation may involve the application of a short thrust in that direction. In many cases, instead of a thrust, a slow relaxing mobilizing movement is used. This can be done for any joint in the body.

Although their main method of treatment is the spinal manipulation, many chiropractic doctors also use other therapies to treat their patients. The following is a brief description of some of the most common therapies chiropractic doctors offer.

Muscle relaxation and/or stimulation consist of gentle stretches to the muscle that has excessive tension or repeated contractions of the muscle that is inhibited may also be used. If the muscle is very tight, a more vigorous stretch may be applied by the chiropractor. Gentle finger pressure techniques may be applied to trigger points to relieve the pain associated with the tight muscles.

Cryotherapy is also often used. Gel ice packs are wrapped in towels and applied to the affected area. This helps reduce swelling and pain and helps with pain control. These ice packs are often placed over massaging pads at the same time.

Ice and Heat Therapy

Ice and heat have long been used to treat many painful conditions. Ice therapy is often used to reduce swelling and help control pain immediately after an injury. Heat therapy is used to relax the muscles, increase circulation, and can provide relief to patients with chronic pain. Depending on the patient's condition, a combination of ice and heat can be used. Your chiropractor will advise you on what is best for your condition.

Chiropractic Effective And Natural For Back Pain

Several people seek chiropractic as a natural and safe method for the treatment of back pain. About 22 million Americans visit the chiropractor each year and thirty five percent of these are seeking the chiropractor for the treatment of back pain. Other common complaints that people visit them for are neck pain, headaches and arm and leg pain.

Chiropractors go through several years of schooling including both undergraduate and post graduate studies. Chiropractic school is a four year program. Students are trained on theory and knowledge in the classroom and then receive hands on training in the clinic. In the United States, chiropractors are required to have a license in the state they reside in order to practice. They are also required to take continuing education courses regularly to stay current in their education and techniques.

Chiropractic treatments involve hands-on methods to manipulate the spine in order to correct problem areas in the spine and other joints in the pelvis, arms or legs. The theory behind these adjustments is to remove nerve interference and restore normal function in the body. By removing this interference, the body is then able to do what it knows best, heal itself. Chiropractic adjustments are beneficial for injuries such as from car accidents, sporting injuries, falls, slips and chronic stress such as from slouching at the desk or sitting without proper back support.

Chiropractic is also helpful for injured muscles and connective tissue such as ligaments, tendons and cartilage. These are often injured in conjunction with misaligned spinal bones. Restoring motion of the vertebra often heals and relieves these surrounding structures. When visiting the chiropractor, they will perform a medical history, perform an evaluation and may also use diagnostic imaging to diagnose the problem and help determine the treatment that is most effective. Chiropractic is often used with conventional medicine. Chiropractors also refer to other healthcare providers when necessary.

Chiropractic treatment involves specific hands on adjustment to one or more problems areas of the spine to improve range of motion and alignment. The goal of the adjustment is not only to provide relief of symptoms, but to also restore normal function and prevent future problems.

Chiropractic is well known to be a safe and effective method of treatment for back pain and other musculoskeletal problems. Research also demonstrates its effectiveness for other conditions such as headaches, neck pain, arthritis and fibromyalgia. Chiropractors also incorporate other healthcare services such as nutrition and physical therapy to provide a multi-disciplinary approach.

Back Pain Meets Relief With Chiropractic Services

All too often people suffer from back pain. It seems that a large majority of people the world over have experienced some sort of back pain at least once in their lives. For some, this seems to be an inherited problem. For others, it develops over time due to poor posture, bone loss, exercise injury, working, or an accident. Some, still, develop problems in their back with no good explanation. However, no matter what the case, chiropractic services can help to ease back pain.

Chiropractors offer a wide range of services for those who experience back pain. They realize that the health of the back can affect the entire body. It the back is out of alignment, it can offset the hips, legs, shoulders, and neck. That is why chiropractors focus on healing the back as part of the whole. Since back pain is located in the core of the body, seeking help from chiropractic services can help to alleviate the need for other special treatments.

Chiropractors provide a wide range of skills in order to help determine the cause of back pain, correct it, and then ensure that the problem will not occur again. These are the three main phases of chiropractic services. Since they use methods that do not involve drugs and rarely surgeries, the goal of the chiropractor is to find the underlying cause of the pain. Their techniques seek to cure the pain at its source instead of merely masking it with prescriptions. Chiropractic services use gentle and natural methods in order to help back pain. These methods range in technique from massage to electric stimuli. Surgery may be required from time to time, but is largely avoided with chiropractic services.

There are numerous benefits that are offered by chiropractic services in order to help those who suffer with back pain. One of those benefits is the price. Since chiropractors prefer to avoid the use of prescription drugs, the cost is greatly decreased. The cost of an office visit is also usually much less than the typical cost of a traditional doctor's visit. However, some insurance plans do not cover the cost of chiropractic services. Due to this, many offices have lower costs and even payment plans that make affording these services more affordable.

Many people who receive chiropractic services to help with back pain find that the treatments are far more successful than with traditional medicine. The treatments help to alleviate their pain in a way that is comfortable and lasting. Since the techniques are gentle, patients can look forward to progressively more relaxing treatments and time goes on. Once the original problem that was causing pain is taken care of, the number of office visits can be decreased over time. This means that ultimately, a person who suffers from pain can discontinue visits. This option is not nearly as common with traditional medicine.

Chiropractic services cater to those who suffer from back pain, although their skills allow them to help those with other problems as well. Since the back is such a pivotal part of the body, chiropractic services may help to determine if something in the back is causing problems elsewhere in the body as well.

Understanding Chiropractic For Disc Problems

Chiropractic is an effective treatment option for disc injuries. When a disc is injured it is commonly referred to as a slipped disc although this term is a misnomer. A disc does not actually slip since it is firmly attached to the vertebra above and below. It is more correctly known as a bulging disc or herniated disc. Discs are located between each of the bones of the spine or vertebrae. They act as cushions to absorb the stresses on the spine.
The discs consist of an outer structure known as the annulus fibrosus and an inner gel known as the nucleus pulposus. Cracks may occur in the outer layer causing the inner gel to leak out. This is known as a disc herniation. Having bad posture, being overweight and trauma can all lead to abnormal pressure on the disc and lead to herniation.
The problem may start off small and gradually get worse with wear and tear on the spine. The symptoms may not be felt until years later. The symptoms often begin when someone sneezes or bends over to tie their shoe, they feel a sharp pain in the back. The discs of the spine need plenty of water to function properly. As we age, the discs often become dehydrated and lose their normal integrity and height. They become hard and brittle and the outer layers become cracked allowing the inner gel to leak out.
Chiropractors are specially trained to help manage disc problems. They are trained to perform a detailed evaluation of the entire spine. If needed, they may order an MRI which will provide a detailed view of the discs of the spine. They will also look for misaligned spinal bones which can lead to abnormal pressure on the discs.
When the bones are misaligned the joints no longer glide properly and cause abnormal wearing of the discs. The joints may also become fixated or stuck which prevents the normal pumping action of the joints. The discs rely heavily on this pumping action to draw fluid into the discs and pump toxins out. The medical term for this process is called imbibition.
Chiropractors provide individualized treatment for disc problems. The cause of disc problems can vary from person to person. The chiropractor can provide spinal manipulation to help correct misaligned spinal joints and they can also provide therapy to help heal injured soft tissue. They may also recommend specific stretches and therapeutic exercises.

Top Reasons Why You Should See a Running Chiropractor

Running is one of the best activities for fitness and weight loss. If you are a runner, you are probably aware of the common running injuries. Most people believe that chiropractors just treat back pain, which isn't the case. Chiropractic care has many benefits, but most importantly, it adds to your fitness levels in many ways. Here's a list of reasons why every runner should consider seeing a chiropractor.

1. Prevent injuries. Let's start by saying that visiting a chiropractor doesn't guarantee immunity or protection against injuries. However, if you are someone who gets injured frequently on the run, chiropractic treatment can help. They can identify the possible issues in joints and nerves and can help in fixing many issues that impact running.

2. Recover faster. Injured runners and athletes often consult with chiropractors for quick healing. They often use a variety of techniques to increase blood flow to the injured area.

3. Improve your energy levels. Numerous organs, body parts, and glands work in sync with one another, and everything is interconnected. If you are feeling stressed and don't feel like doing exercise due to physical pain and discomfort, chiropractors can help. They can promote healing, which will increase the natural energy levels of the body by improving nerve function.

4. Manage pain better. Most of us have a tendency of relying on painkillers for injuries related to sports and running, which isn't the best practice because it is placed a "bandaid" over the area and these meds can damage the gastrointestinal system over time. With chiropractic treatment, you can expect some relief. The severity of the condition will minimize considerably, and you should be able to get on track sooner.

5. Stay fit. Contrary to popular belief, chiropractic treatments are not limited to pain management. It's often one of the best ways to stay fit. Even a regular session with your running chiropractor can make a huge difference in your fitness levels. Runners often deal with extensive physical training, which can affect their body in many ways. Even when you don't have pain, a running chiropractor can help you feel better.

Finding A Clinic

When it comes to chiropractic treatments, selecting the right clinic is important. Some of them specialize in sports injuries, while others are more concerned with corrective chiropractic. As a runner, you should choose one that offers treatment and fitness help for runners and athletes in particular. The concerned chiropractor must have experience of working with athletes and sports teams, and as required, he or she must can explain the ways that will help in improving fitness and physical form. Check the credentials of the chiropractor and ask questions about their experience and practice. Don't shy away from talking about the general treatment approach. A good and reputable chiropractor is also a good listener, the same that you should expect of doctors. He or she will understand your fitness issues before deciding and discussing treatment.

Check online now to know more about chiropractic care, and don't forget to look for clinics in your area.

Chiropractic Care Has Many Benefits

Chiropractic care, an alternative to traditional medicine, has helped thousands of people become pain-free or manage their pain. It may also be one of the best ways to save money and avoid invasive treatment such as surgery or strong drugs. Here are some of the proven ways chiropractic care can help you.

Reducing Pain

You may think of chiropractic care first to relieve problems or pain in your neck and back. But any joint can benefit from chiropractic treatment as well. People suffering from arthritis, even after several years, can get better for life without heavy drugs and surgery. Your chiropractor can provide pain relief for any area of your body.

Lowering spinal pressure has benefits throughout the body. You will experience reduction of pain in the back, knees, feet and legs. It will also reduce muscle spasms and stiffness, so that you can move better. Your range of motion (that is, how far you can move your arms or legs) will increase, and you will have better coordination so that you can effectively perform your activities of daily living. Increased energy is another benefit.

Enhancing Healing

If you have been in an accident or are recovering from a serious illness, chiropractic care may help you experience faster healing. When pressure is relieved throughout, your body begins to heal as it should. Relief sometimes comes very quickly from chiropractic care, with some patients seeing immediate benefits from their first session. Your chiropractic doctor can realign your limbs and joints to give you fast relief.

During your first few chiropractic sessions, it's common to feel slight pain or discomfort. Your body may have been unconditioned or under stress for a long time! Your doctor may be able to tell you when you can expect to feel more comfortable about treatment.

Chiropractics is valuable in treating a variety of conditions and illnesses, and it is also useful as a supplement to traditional medicine to enhance the healing process.

Affordability

Traditional medicine often requires immediate and drastic treatment with equipment and drugs, and these treatments may cost thousands of dollars. Chiropractic care requires nothing but sessions and therapies, and is a cost-effective path to relief of stiffness and pain in your joints and muscles.
Prices vary in chiropractic treatment, but there is usually no need to charge excessively "up front". Your costs may go down over time as your body requires less treatment, and a long course of treatment may also give you the benefit of lower overall costs.

Many chiropractic professionals accept insurance or payment plans, and those that only accept cash may be willing to give you a discount, especially for continued treatment.

Less Risk

Chiropractic care is not risky. You won't need to worry about painful treatments like surgery or a course of steroid drugs, that leave you incapacitated for weeks or months. With a qualified chiropractic professional, you can be confident that your treatment will be efficient and effective. Depending on your current condition and how you respond to treatment, your course of therapy may last for only a few sessions.

Purpose of a Chiropractic Adjustment

This may seem like a self-evident topic. Well it's not. The Chiropractic profession cannot even agree on the purpose of an adjustment. There is the fundamental, basic purpose that has been around since 1895 (the inception of Chiropractic) which has not changed, deviated or strayed from its first day. Then there are the fads, the misconceptions, and the attempts to fit nicely into the Medical model.

The most common misconception is that a Chiropractic adjustment is solely for the elimination of symptoms; such as neck pain, back pain, headaches, etc... Although Chiropractic is highly effective at helping to relieve these symptoms, this misconception usually stems from the fact that much of the population does not understand the Nervous System. They believe that nerves only carry messages of pain to the brain. That is obviously not the case. If it was, then there would have to be something other than the brain controlling all of your organs and chemical reactions going on within the body. Simply not so!

The second misconception was perpetuated by early Chiropractors themselves. They actually believed that a Chiropractic adjustment was the cure-all for all diseases. This was in part due to the overwhelming number of "conditions" that seemed to get better under Chiropractic care; and in part due to the frustration directed towards much of the Medical community and their treatment of symptoms, neglecting the "entire person" in many cases. This is obviously just as wrong as the belief that Chiropractic is only for neck and back pain, because many times other things are needed as well to get sick people well. Such as proper nutrition, exercise, rest, and even Medical intervention. Other times, however, a person may have been "sick" for too long for even the body's inborn healing ability to overcome the damage done by years of disease or neglect. Or even for medicine to undo the damage. (i.e.. terminal cancer, people that have had multiple heart attacks, etc).

So what is an adjustment for? Well, when you remove all of the misconceptions and the fads, you are left with one simple fact. A bone in your spine out of place (Vertebral Subluxation), will always have a detrimental effect somewhere in the body due to interference in the Nervous System. This is because structure ALWAYS affects function. Example: If you change the structure of a boat in the water by putting one oar in, the boat will go around in circles. If you put a spoiler on a car, it makes the car more aero-dynamic. If you tie a string around your aorta (the largest artery in your body), blood flow will lessen or stop completely. Structure always changes function. If a vertebral bone is out of place - then it will restrict the communication between the brain and some distant part of the body. ALWAYS! If you remove the interference by removing the bone (vertebrae) from the nerve or spinal cord (this is a Chiropractic adjustment), you once again change the function - in this case improving it. The body's inborn intelligence is once again allowed to control and co-ordinate all bodily functions so that the body can adapt itself to the external and internal environments; survive and prosper.

It comes down to one simple fact; the body will ALWAYS function better without a vertebral subluxation than with a vertebral subluxation. That goes for any and every person with a spine and a Nervous System. Everyone knows that if you do not brush your teeth and get them checked regularly your chances of good oral hygiene are not good. What is more important - your teeth or your spine? When was the last time you had your spine checked?
